THE DEMAND FOR FISCAL CUSTOMS CLEARANCE IN THE PORT IS GROWING

Recently, our company had the privilege of being featured in a prominent newspaper Dopravni Noviny, highlighting our successes, values, and contributions to our industry – logistics. In their article, our Head of Sales, David Čižmešija, explains how the demand for fiscal customs clearance in the port is growing and about the company recognition and credibility internationally.

One of the key initiatives highlighted in the article is Gemini’s investment in finding the best complete solutions for our clients and business partners, and how we are providing our colleagues with the possibilities to get all the knowledge about logistics.

Gemini Bilje is a family logistics and customs broker- company that has been operating on the market since 1991. Statement, what impact on the offer of their services had the economic situation and disruption of supply chains last year, provided to us David Čižmešija, Head of Sales Gemini Bilje d.o.o.

LOGISTICS AND MARITIME TRANSPORT HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH A TURBULENT PERIOD IN RECENT YEARS. HOW HAS THIS AFFECTED THE RANGE OF YOUR SERVICES AND THE INTEREST IN THEM?

A turbulent period in Logistics and Maritime Transport in recent years allowed us to really test our gathered knowledge since 1991 and develop and perfect our standard services. As a result of a permanent focus on finding the best complete solutions for our clients and business partners, we also succeeded in further expansion of our range of services. The shift, which is still ongoing, is offering ideal ground for new solutions, new combinations, and new approaches to the resolution of the current congestion in ports, on roads, rail networks and, at the same time, optimizing the costs and total time of the transport, so the final consignee does not feel the effect of the changes and challenges we are facing. However, the necessary part of the entire procedure is knowledge. In Gemini, we are doing our best to provide our colleagues with the possibilities to get and, at the same moment, to use the knowledge and focus on finding new, complete solutions. Hence, the interest in our services continues to grow, and Gemini, with its services, supports more and more clients and business partners.

SHIPPING RATES HAVE CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY IN RECENT YEARS. WHAT DEVELOPMENTS DO YOU EXPECT IN THIS AREA AND WHAT IMPACT DOES THIS HAVE ON YOUR SERVICE OFFERING?

The recent years have offered us a wide range of prices in every field in Logistics, and Maritime transport, as a consequence of several worldwide, affecting challenges. The result was market instability, which required full adaptability and quick actions. Furthermore, we noticed the importance of expanding and growing collaboration with trustworthy business partners, allowing us to expand the range of services and tailor-made solutions. The shipping rates went from historical lows to historical heights, but in the last months, we are again noticing the free fall of shipping rates as the consequence of previously historically highest shipping rates taking their toll on the global market final customer prices. Companies had to stop production due to lower consumption and consequently predicted recession. Another long-term effect on shipping rates is coming from the carrier´s orders of new container vessels, which were manufactured in the last years. When the ships come to use on the market, the demand will need to be way higher than the current one because otherwise, the offer will be way above the demand, and the market shipping prices will hardly come to the “golden middle” where consumers are satisfied with the rates and carriers can make enough to invest into further developments and greener technologies.

WHICH OF YOUR SERVICES ARE MOST IN DEMAND CURRENTLY?

Currently, we are experiencing an increase in demand for fiscal customs clearance in the port, which, thanks to its advantages, allows the client to optimize the inland delivery costs, cash-flow and timely fixed deliveries, as there is no need for customs stop on the routing from port to the final consignee place. Then undoubtedly higher demand for combined deliveries with preloading to FTL/FRIGO trucks and OOG deliveries.

THE PANDEMIC HAS LED TO GREATER USE OF DIGITALISATION. RECENTLY, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE HAS ALSO BEEN USED MORE IN MANY FIELDS. WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE PROSPECTS FOR AI IN THE AREA IN WHICH YOU DO BUSINESS?

The digitalisation is bringing faster and easy monitorable ways of doing business, especially the AI technology is aiming to still move forward. From our existing experience, there are still remaining a lot of factors which will have to adapt to the newest technologies, starting with governmental offices, as the private sector is self-driven into progress. However, we do believe that with mutual collaboration, supported by digitalisation, between the governmental and private sector, we can make the environment more acceptable to businesses and all the logistics providers.
